At Exclusive Riding we keenly follow the breeding of warmblood horses, both in South Africa and overseas. We are particularly interested in the breeding and development of the dressage horse, and how it performs on the competitive circuit.

Overseas the trend is towards breeding separate dressage and jumping lines, but since the population of warmblood horses is much smaller in South Africa than in Europe, many breeders here are still breeding sports horses that can perform in both disciplines.

In terms of breeding, more South African breeders are importing horses as well as frozen semen. The effect this has had on the development of the South African warmblood horse is a more athletic, modern horse with a high rideability and powerful movement. The South African breeder is catching up to International standards!

We are a member of SAWHS and have joined SAHBA as a friend of the Hannoveraner.
